Finding a Tutor
How Do I Find a Tutor on MatheCord?
Open the MatheTutor Directory and use the available filters to narrow your search by topic, price, country, language, time zone, session type, and availability. Each profile includes the tutor's hourly rate, topics, weekly availability, and booking link so you can review the information before making contact.
How Much Do Tutors Charge?
Each tutor sets their own rate, which is displayed on their profile. MatheCord does not set minimum or maximum tutoring rates and does not take a commission from tutoring fees.
Does MatheCord Take a Cut of What I Pay My Tutor?
No. Tutors keep 100% of their session fees. You pay your tutor directly through their own payment link, so tutoring payments do not pass through MatheCord. Your MatheCord subscription pays for access to the platform and community and is separate from tutoring session fees.
Can I See When a Tutor Is Available Before I Message Them?
Yes. Each tutor profile includes weekly availability for all seven days, with a time range or an unavailable status for each day. This represents the tutor's usual availability rather than a live calendar. The Book button opens the tutor's own booking link, where you can view current openings and reserve a session. Confirm the final session time directly with your tutor.
Do I Have to Use Discord?
Yes. You browse the tutor directory on the MatheCord website, while communication with your tutor takes place through a support ticket in the MatheCord Discord server. The MatheCord team monitors and reviews these conversations, providing a clear communication record for both students and tutors. Sessions take place on Lessonspace or another platform your tutor prefers. Visit the Tutoring page for a complete walkthrough.
What Happens if a Tutor Cancels or Does Not Show Up?
If a MatheTutor cancels a session, they are required to provide a full refund of the session fee or offer a makeup session at a mutually agreed time. If this does not happen, open a support ticket. MatheCord does not hold tutoring payments and cannot issue the refund directly, but the team investigates reports and may cancel a tutor's subscription or remove them from the community when appropriate.
Why Do I Need a Subscription to Browse Tutors?
The tutor directory is available to members so MatheCord can maintain monitored communication between students and tutors while protecting tutors from unsolicited messages. Every plan starts with a free trial. Weekly plans include a 3 day free trial, while monthly and annual plans include a 7 day free trial.

Is MatheCord Open to All Ages?
Yes. MatheCord welcomes learners of all ages. Because MatheTutors are independent educators and are not vetted by MatheCord, a parent or guardian should supervise tutoring sessions involving anyone under 18. Review tutor profiles, request credentials when appropriate, check available reviews, and report suspicious activity to the MatheCord team.
Is MatheCord Available Worldwide?
Yes. Tutors and students can join from around the world. The directory includes filters for country, time zone, and language to help members find suitable matches.
How Do I Upgrade My Role From MatheGuest?
Visit the subscription plans on the MatheCord website or view MatheCord plans on Whop and select the plan that fits your needs. After subscribing, complete the one time Connect Account step on Whop to link your Discord account. Your updated role will appear after the accounts are connected.
What Is the Difference Between Student and Tutor Plans?
A MatheStudent plan gives you access to the tutor directory so you can browse profiles and contact tutors. A MatheTutor plan allows you to create and publish your own tutor profile so students can find you. MatheDuo includes both. Visit the Tutoring page for a more detailed breakdown.
How Do I Stay Updated on Events, Workshops, and New Resources?
Opt in for updates when you subscribe or sign up for the newsletter on the MatheCord website. Announcements are also shared through the Discord server and MatheCord's social media channels.
Does MatheCord Have an Affiliate Program?
Yes. The MatheCord Affiliate Program offers a 20% commission on qualifying subscriptions purchased through your affiliate link. Visit the Affiliate Program page or ask in Discord for more information.

How Do I Message a Tutor Once I Find One?
Select Message on the tutor's card or profile. Their Discord name is automatically copied to your clipboard, and the support ticket link opens. Paste the tutor's name into the ticket form, and the bot will add and notify them. Continue your communication in the ticket rather than moving the conversation to private messages.
How Do I Pay for a Session?
Pay your tutor directly using the payment link provided on their profile. MatheCord does not process, hold, or refund tutoring session payments, so confirm the amount and payment method with your tutor before the session.
How Do I Get the Most Out of a Tutoring Session?
- Be specific about what you need help with. Tell your tutor which topics or problems are giving you difficulty so they can focus the session around your needs.
- Be open to a different approach. Sometimes a new explanation can make a difficult concept easier to understand.
- Ask questions as you go. If something stops making sense, let your tutor know.
- Practice between sessions. Work through problems independently and bring challenging ones to your next session.
- Share feedback. Tell your tutor which explanations and approaches are helping you learn.
Where Do Tutoring Sessions Take Place?
Sessions take place on Lessonspace or another platform selected by your tutor. MatheCord provides Lessonspace, where sessions are recorded for quality and safety. Tutors may also choose another platform.
How Do I Leave a Review, and Why Does It Matter?
MatheCord has a dedicated tutor review channel in Discord. Sharing your experience can help other students make informed decisions and provide useful feedback to tutors. Because MatheCord does not vet tutors, reviewing available feedback before booking can also help you evaluate your options.
For Tutors
How Do I Start Tutoring on MatheCord?
Subscribe to a MatheTutor plan, then visit Become a Tutor to create your profile. Once published, your profile appears in the website tutor directory and relevant Discord topic channels.
What Goes on My Profile?
Your profile can include a photo, name, professional About Me, hourly rate in your preferred currency, topics, country, time zone, languages, session type, weekly availability, and your booking and payment links. You can also include a resume, contract, and certifications.
Do I Really Keep Everything I Charge?
Yes. MatheCord takes no commission or booking fee from tutoring sessions. Students pay you directly through your own payment link, so tutoring payments do not pass through MatheCord. Your MatheTutor subscription is separate from the fees you earn from students.
Am I an Employee of MatheCord?
No. MatheTutors are independent contractors. You are responsible for your own scheduling, lesson planning, teaching approach, contracts, pricing, payment collection, and taxes. MatheCord hosts your profile, helps students discover you, and monitors and reviews communication through the ticket system.
How Do I Get More Students?
Build your presence within the MatheCord community. You can host workshops independently or with promotional support from the MatheCord team and participate in community discussions by answering math questions. Giving students opportunities to see how you explain concepts can help them decide whether your teaching style fits their needs.
Can I Offer Group Sessions?
Yes. Your profile allows you to offer one on one sessions, group sessions, or both. Students can also filter tutors by session type.
Can I Edit or Remove My Profile?
Yes. You can update your profile through the same page where you created it. If your subscription lapses, your profile is hidden from the directory and removed from Discord. It becomes available again if you resubscribe.
Is There Anywhere for Tutors to Talk to Each Other?
Yes. The MatheTutor Lounge is a dedicated space where tutors can connect, exchange ideas, discuss teaching approaches, and share experiences.
Safety & Support
Does MatheCord Vet or Background Check Tutors?
No. MatheTutors are independent educators, and MatheCord does not conduct background checks. Review the tutor's full profile, request credentials before booking, check available reviews, and provide parent or guardian supervision for anyone under 18. If you notice suspicious activity, open a support ticket so the MatheCord team can investigate.
What Should I Do if There Is a Dispute With a Tutor or Student?
Open a support ticket so the MatheCord team can investigate. MatheCord does not hold or insure tutoring session payments because payments are handled directly between tutors and students. If a payment related dispute occurs, the team can investigate the report and take appropriate action on MatheCord, including canceling subscriptions or removing users from the community.
Why Does Communication Have to Go Through a Ticket?
The ticket system keeps tutor and student communication within a space that MatheCord monitors and reviews. This creates a clear record if an issue occurs and helps protect tutors from unsolicited private messages. Keep scheduling, questions, and other tutoring related communication within the ticket throughout your tutoring relationship.
Are Sessions Recorded?
Sessions held through Lessonspace are recorded for quality and safety. If you have concerns about being recorded, discuss them with your tutor before the session begins.
Should I Meet a Tutor in Person?
MatheCord is an online platform and strongly discourages in person meetings. Any arrangements made to meet outside the platform are separate from MatheCord and are not supervised by the MatheCord team.
