Built by a Tutor, Not a Startup
MatheCord connects students with independent math tutors while allowing tutors to keep everything they earn. Here is how the idea began and how MatheCord supports the platform without taking a cut from tutoring fees.

Meet Amber Jones
Hi, I am Amber Jones, the founder of MatheCord. I am a mother of five with decades of tutoring experience, including professional tutoring and years of helping students build confidence in math. My love of math started early. I was the child solving problems indoors while everyone else was outside and the student asking for extra homework because I genuinely wanted to understand it.
In college, I began tutoring classmates and continued developing my experience through professional tutoring. Today, I bring that experience into MatheCord while also helping my own children build a positive relationship with math.
MatheCord grew from watching talented tutors give up a portion of what they earned while students paid more because of those fees. I wanted to create a place where tutors could set fair rates, keep what they earn, and connect with students who need their help. That idea became MatheCord.
Making learning a rewarding experience for all.

Tutors Keep What They Earn
MatheCord takes no commission from tutoring sessions. When tutors keep their full fee, they have greater flexibility to set fair rates while still earning what their work is worth. Students can benefit from more accessible pricing without MatheCord taking a percentage in the middle.
Transparency Comes First
MatheCord does not hold tutoring payments or guarantee academic results. We communicate these details clearly so students and families can make informed decisions before booking or paying for a tutoring session.
A Community, Not Just a Place to Book
Booking a tutor is only one part of MatheCord. Members can ask math questions, work through practice worksheets, join workshops, and connect with others in the community between tutoring sessions.
How Does MatheCord Make Money?
It is a fair question, and the answer is simple.
Subscriptions, and Nothing Else
Students and tutors pay for membership plans that provide access to MatheCord. Subscription fees support the platform without taking a percentage of tutoring sessions.
What Your Subscription Supports
Subscription fees help support marketing, the tutor directory, ticket system, automated bot, practice worksheets, community moderation, and Lessonspace accounts. These services help keep MatheCord and its community running.
What We Never Take
MatheCord does not take a percentage of tutoring session fees. Students pay tutors directly through each tutor's own payment link, so tutoring payments do not pass through MatheCord.
Why It Works This Way
Commission based platforms can lead tutors to increase their rates to account for platform fees. MatheCord uses a subscription model instead, allowing tutors to set their own rates without a percentage being taken from each session. It also means MatheCord does not benefit from directing students toward higher priced tutors.
Still Growing
MatheCord began as a Discord server and has grown into a platform where tutors can create detailed profiles that students can browse and filter. The next stage is focused on making tutors easier to discover and helping students make informed choices.
We share updates about what we are building and improving along the way. Visit the blog for a closer look at MatheCord's progress.
-
Tutor Profiles on the Website
Complete. Tutors create one profile that appears in both the website directory and relevant Discord topic channels.
-
More Useful Search Filters
Complete. Students can narrow their search by topic, price, country, language, time zone, session type, and specific days of availability.
-
More Tutors Across More Time Zones
In progress. A useful directory needs a diverse range of tutors and availability, so expanding the tutor community remains a priority.
-
Reviews Closer to Tutor Profiles
Planned. Reviews currently appear in a Discord channel, with the goal of eventually making them available closer to the relevant tutor profiles.
-
Tutor Background Checks
Planned. MatheCord is preparing to implement a background check system as the platform continues to grow. Updates will be shared as this feature is developed.
