Built by a tutor, not a startup
MatheCord connects students with independent math tutors and takes nothing out of what those tutors earn. Here is where that came from and how it pays for itself.
Meet Amber Jones
Hi, I am Amber Jones, the founder of MatheCord. As a mother of five, I have spent decades tutoring math and helping people get past the parts that make them want to give up. My own love of it started early. I was the child solving problems indoors while everyone else was outside, and the student who asked for extra homework because I wanted to understand it properly.
At college I tutored classmates for free because it did not occur to me to charge. These days I am mostly working on my own children liking math, which is its own kind of tutoring.
MatheCord came out of watching good tutors give up a slice of every hour they worked, and watching students pay more because of it. I wanted a place where a tutor could set a fair price, keep it, and be found by the people who need them. That is the whole idea.

Tutors keep what they earn
No commission on any session. A tutor who keeps their whole fee can charge less and still take home more, and the student pays less for it. Everybody wins except the middleman, and we would rather not be one.
Say the awkward parts out loud
We do not vet tutors, we do not hold payments, and we cannot promise a grade. You will find that written plainly on the tutoring page rather than buried in the terms, because you deserve to know before you pay anything.
A community, not a checkout
Booking a tutor is one thing you can do here. Asking a question at midnight, working through a shared worksheet, or sitting in on a workshop are the others, and they are free once you are in.
So how does MatheCord make money?
Fair question, and the answer is short.
Subscriptions, and nothing else
Students and tutors pay a plan to be here. That is the entire business model.
What the subscription pays for
The directory, the ticket system, the bot that runs it, the worksheets, the community moderation and the Lessonspace accounts. Running all of that costs money, and this is where it comes from.
What we never take
A cut of any tutoring session. Students pay tutors directly through the tutor's own payment link. That money does not pass through MatheCord, so we could not take a slice of it even if we wanted to.
Why it is set up this way
Commission models quietly push prices up, because tutors raise their rate to cover the cut. A flat subscription keeps our income steady and keeps tutor pricing honest. It also means we have no reason to push you toward an expensive tutor.
Still being built
MatheCord started as a Discord server and grew into a place where tutors have real profiles that students can browse and filter. The next stretch is about making that easier to find and easier to trust.

Tutor profiles on the website
Done. Tutors build a profile once and it appears in the directory and in the Discord topic channels at the same time.

Filtering that actually narrows things down
Done. Topic, price, country, language, time zone, session type and the specific days a tutor is free.

In progress. The directory is only as useful as the range of people in it, so this is the main push.

Reviews closer to the profiles
Planned. Reviews live in a Discord channel today. They belong next to the tutor they are about.
